Uses of Fenugreek

Fenugreek is not only used to enhance the taste of, food but is also used to achieve many beneficial health benefits. Fenugreek seeds are also important for your skin and internal health.

The green leaves of fenugreek and its hard seeds have been used by our women for a long time in various curries. It has been used in the kitchens of the subcontinent for centuries.

  • Fenugreek seeds and leaves are used as herbs and spices for medicines and cooking. 
  • You can mix fenugreek greens with spinach and potatoes to make tasty bhujiya or add it to minced fenugreek and spinach meat, it is very tasty and its unique aroma increases the feeling of hunger from a distance. 
  • You can sprinkle fenugreek dried leaves in different curries, these leaves develop an awesome taste in your curries. You can make fenugreek leaves or seeds tea.
  • You can make fenugreek seeds powder for different purposes.

Ingredients

Ø  Fenugreek leaves (3 Cups chopped fine)

Ø  Gram flour (1/2 cup)

Ø  Whole wheat flour (1 cup)

Ø  Asafoetida (1/4 tsp)

Ø  Chili powder (1/2tsp

Ø  Ghee (2tsp)

Ø  Green chilies, finely chopped (1 tsp)

Ø  Coriander leaves, chopped1 (tbsp)

Ø  Ghee (for frying (1/2 cup)

Ø  Salt (to taste)

Preparation method

Ø  Knead all the ingredients together.

Ø  Roll likes a paratha with a rolling stick.

Ø  Cook on a heated pan over ghee.

Ø  Serve hot.

Methi Pulao Recipe

Ingredients

Ø  Fenugreek leaves (1 bunch, finely chopped)

Ø  Basmati rice (2 cups, soaked for 20 minutes

Ø  Garlic (5 to 8 cloves, crushed)

Ø  Ginger (a small piece, crushed)

Ø  Salt (as per taste)

Ø  Green chilies (4 to 5)

Ø  Tomatoes (1 chopped finely)

Preparation method

Ø  In a wok add 2 to 3 tablespoons of ghee.

Ø  Add garlic and, ginger, and stir fry.

Ø  Add the fenugreek leaves and fry on a low flame till soft.

Ø  Add salt.

Ø  Add the chopped tomato and green chilies and cook till soft.

Ø  Add the rice.

Ø  Add measured water.

Ø  For 1 cup of rice add 2 cups of water (double the quantity).

Ø  Add 4 cups of water for 2 cups of rice.

Ø  Use the same cup for measuring both rice and water.

Ø  Cover and cook till the water is absorbed and the rice becomes soft.

Ø Sprinkle lemon juice and serve hot.
